Every serious betting record is measured in units, not dollars — and not just wins and losses. This guide explains what a unit is, how to size yours, and why units won is the only honest way to judge any picks service.
A unit is a fixed percentage of your total bankroll — the amount of money you've set aside exclusively for betting. The industry standard is 1 unit = 1% of bankroll.
A "2u pick" means the bettor is staking 2% of their bankroll — double their standard bet, signaling higher confidence.
A record of 60-40 (60%) sounds great — but if the wins came on heavy favorites at -250 and the losses on underdogs, that record can lose money. Units won accounts for the price of every bet.
It depends on your risk tolerance and how much variance you can stomach:
Whatever you choose, the bankroll must be money you can afford to lose completely — never rent, never savings you'll need.
Flat betting puts exactly 1u on every pick — simple and disciplined. Variable staking sizes bets by edge: bigger perceived advantage, bigger stake. Our AI uses conservative fractional Kelly staking, which is why suggested units vary from pick to pick.
Both approaches work. What never works: raising stakes to chase losses.
